PRAISE FOR THE WRECK

“strangely infectious…tight direction” - Hyperallergic

”
Aeon has a brilliant swirling mix of objectively cool visual aesthetic, nightlife dramaturgical sensibility, and an event producer's sense of flow.” - NY Theatre Review

“Gloriously sexy, frequently filthy, and intellectually mischievous entertainment…Aeon Andreas’ direction deserves particular praise for shaping Sleth’s exuberant accumulation of ideas into a theatrical event with its own distinctive atmosphere and rhythm… the carefully managed momentum…Andreas understands that… its pleasures depend on the friction between intimate confession and public spectacle, between emotional exposure and the knowing artifice through which contemporary culture packages it. The director gives the performers room to pursue the play’s digressions and provocations while finding visual punctuation for its shifts in time and perspective.” - The BroadGAYS

ABOUT THE WRECK

‘The Wreck of the Unbelievable’ - a play by SLETH -
imagines a scandalous timeline where art world megastar/bad boy/multimillionaire Damien Hirst is posthumously revealed to have had a longtime secret boyfriend, an unknown younger painter named Shape. He is coerced into an interview for a Guggenheim retrospective, led by a former friend and collaborator, Kaminski, a reformed performance artist turned curator. Shape reflects on Hirst’s legacy, subversiveness and obsession with/fear of death. He divulges a messy, explosive and all-consuming 10-year affair that culminates during Hirst’s entry into 2017 Venice biennale, titled “Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable”.

PREMIERED IN SEPTEMBER 2026 at THE BRICK THEATER
